Hongyu Chen

Professor
Division of Chemistry & Biological Chemistry
School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences
Nanyang Technological University

Dr. Chen is a Professor in Nanjing Tech University, China. He graduated with B.Sc. from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1998, and Ph.D. from Yale University in 2004. After working as Postdoctoral Associate in Cornell University for 1.5 years, he joined Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as Assistant Professor in 2006 and became tenured Associate Professor in 2011. He served as Deputy Head of Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry (Aug/11-Dec/11), Assistant Chair (Jan/12-Dec/12) and then Associate Chair of School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (Jan/13-May/14), and Associate Dean of College of Science (July/13-Dec/16). In Jan/16, he joined Nanjing Tech University, and co-founded the Institute of Advanced Synthesis as the Executive Dean.

Dr. Chen’s main research interest is the development of synthetic methodology of complex nanostructures, along with their applications. By exploring the underlying mechanisms, he hopes to explore new areas beyond the traditional fields of nanosynthesis, for example in terms of multi-component structures, complex shapes (rings, double helices, etc.), assembled structures, chiral structures, and non-facet-specific synthetic approaches. He has published 90 papers, with over 20 papers as corresponding author in J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. Among his students and postdoctors, 13 are now professors in China and U.S.
